What Exactly is an Apple User Group?
Maui and Apple Macintosh computers go hand in hand- Maui is a very Mac friendly island. With a population of more than 150,000 we have an Apple Reseller and Apple Training Center? Did you know the 1999 iMacs were code named “Kihei”? Could it be a coincidence that Hawaii exports the Macadamia “Mac” nut, known as the best type of nut worldwide? If you watch many of Apple’s keynote presentations, you will see hints of Hawaii in programs like iPhoto and iMovie.
The Maui Apple User Society, MAUS (pronounced as “Mouse”) for short, was started back in 1994. Now, 18 years later, the Maui Apple Users Society has grown, and flourished into one of the premier Mac User Groups in the United States. Our User Group has grown rapidly in the past few years, and is now currently hovering at 200 members. Apparently, Maui is the place to be, especially so if you own or are just plain interested in Macs.
Maui Apple Users Society and other Apple User Groups worldwide are organizations created by people interested in sharing information about their computers and what they can accomplish with the help of digital technology. User groups are about the technology, but also about the friendships that result. Over 900 user groups worldwide have registered and recognized by Apple – some with fewer than 30 members, others with over 1,000.
We help members with technical questions, give honest advice on software selection, and provide a friendly environment where people can learn more about their computers. It’s not uncommon to find one-on-one support, monthly meetings, an informative newsletter, member discounts, and of course, the inevitable camaraderie that all Mac users share in our group.
